About the Scales area

The small village of Scales is situated on the Cumbrian Peninsula and makes a fabulous base to explore this gem of an area. The name Scales originates from an old Norse word meaning ‘huts'. Ulveston, an ancient market town, is only four miles away and it has retained its community spirit, holding a thriving street market every Thursday and Saturday and there are many festivals throughout the year.

One of the claims to fame Ulveston has is that it is the birthplace of Stan Laurel, and to commemorate their famous son there is a Laurel and Hardy Museum. The Furness Coast has unspoiled sandy beaches and bird watching opportunities and the Cumbrian national Park is within easy reach. With plenty of family attractions in the area, this a great place for a holiday.
