Newlands cottages

The Newlands Valley is regarded as one of the most picturesque and quiet valleys in the Lake District. Just a few miles from Keswick, the Newlands Valley is separated from Derwentwater by a single range of hills that includes the popular Cat Bells. The dale is thinly populated. Stair is a small hamlet at the start of the valley and includes the only pub in the valley. A winding road with frequent glimpses of the Newlands Beck leads to Littletown, another small hamlet. Close by is Newlands Church, a pretty whitewashed building situated at the foot of the hills, then on to Buttermere over Newlands Hause. The Newlands Valley was extensively mined and quarried for many centuries, with lead, copper, silver and even gold being extracted over the years.
