Holiday cottages Kirkby Stephen

Kirkby Stephen cottagesSurrounded by spectacular scenery, Kirkby Stephen lies at the southern end of the Eden Valley near the entrance to the wonderfully named and ruggedly striking Mallerstang, the valley of the upper Eden. It leads through to Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales and is the route followed by the Settle-Carlisle railway. Using the train is a great way to explore the area, with opportunities for linear walks, although the station is over a mile to the south-west of the town. This charming town is the halfway point on Alfred Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk-190 miles from St Bee’s Head to Robin Hood’s Bay. Kirkby Stephen has a pleasant main street lined by many buildings constructed in the distinctive local red sandstone, a cobbled market square and large parish church known locally as the Cathedral of the Dales.
