Hartsop cottages

Hartsop cottagesThe hamlet of Hartsop lies in Patterdale, at the foot of the Kirkstone Pass a couple of miles from Patterdale village and the southern end of Ullswater. This tiny village, made up of grey stone cottages, lies just off the road linking Ullswater with Ambleside and Windermere. It sits at the entrance to Hayeswater valley in the shadows of the High Street Range, an eight-mile-long spine running north to south which stays consistently above 2000 feet. Across the valley lie the eastern slopes of Helvellyn, the prominent whale-backed mass of Red Screes and the lofty east ridge of St Sunday Crag.
