Buttermere cottages to rent

Buttermere cottages to rentThe beautiful Buttermere valley comprises a string of small lakes – Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater separated by flat, verdant meadows. The tiny village of Buttermere lies near the head of the valley, between Buttermere (the lake) and Crummock Water, and comprises two pubs, a few farms, a small chapel and some isolated houses. The lake is less than two miles long and is hemmed in by the soaring peaks of Robinson, Fleetwith Pike and the High Stile Ridge. The classic combination of lakes and mountains has made the village popular with visitors since the beginning of tourism in the Lake District. The area offers some of the best walking country in Lakeland with a footpath running round the perimeter of the lake, and lovely walks to the summits of Red Pike and Haystacks – Wainwright’s favourite fell where his ashes were scattered.
